AMAs acronym for America Musical Awards which has always given Hollywood a reason to celebrate. Singers, composers, actors and the whole America comes together to give the world something to remember about. Though AMAs 2017 happened on 19th November its buzz is still alive. So, taking advantage of that and to be a part of it, we are going to present some hand-picked songs from AMAs. Some bagged awards, some have just missed it and some stole the glamour of the evening.
“Blue Ain’t Your Colour” By Keith Urban
This song won the award for Best Song (Country). Keith Urban deserved this award for keeping alive this lost genre of music in this modern world. Keith had released his ninth album “Ripcord” in August 2016, which has this beautiful song. A lovely melody which will keep you intrigued with its lyrics. They narrate about a man who loves a woman. She is heartbroken and he cheers her up. So, woe the person you love using this song lyrics.
“If I were a painter
I wouldn’t change
I’d just paint you bright
Baby, Blue looks good in the sky
Look good on the neon buzzing on the wall
But darling don’t match your eyes
Baby, Blue Ain’t Your Colour”
“Dirt On My Boots” By Jon Pardi
The song was among the top three nominees for Best Song (Country) category. Missed it but we think it requires appreciation. Jon Pardi had released his album “California Sunrise” in September 2016, which has this beautiful song. If the title of the song made you think ‘Howdy’, then you are really good at understanding music. The whole song has the typical country song beats with the tune to go with. You might as well feel like wearing a Cowboy Hat because the song has the background for it.
“Give me a half an hour
For a shave and shower
And I’ll be outside your house
Might have a little mud on my wheels
But they gonna shine
With ya up inside”
“Body Like A Back Road” By Sam Hunt
Sam Hunt also closely missed the Best Song (Country) award. It was released in February 2017 for Sam Hunt’s second album and written by him along with Zach Crowell, Shane McAnally, and Josh Osborne. The song could be called as a bike racer’s point of view towards a girl’s body. It is a kinky yet a fun song which is why it got nominated for AMAs.
“Got a girl from south side
Got braids in her hair
Had to get her number
Took me like six weeks”
“Don’t Wanna Know” By Maroon 5 Ft. Kendrick Lamar
Another song which almost made it but couldn’t. It was nominated for the Collaboration of the Year category. ‘Don’t Wanna Know’ was released on October 11, 2016, for the band’s sixth album ‘Red Pill Blues’. It is one of those songs which have more to it than just music. A story about a guy who still loves his ex and cares about her but denies showing it. The background music has the signature Maroon 5 beats. The song is for both happy and sad mood, it depends on what part of it are you focusing.
“Do you think of me?
of what we used to be?
Is it better now that I’m not around?
My friends are acting strange
They don’t bring up your name
Are you happy now?”
“Hotline Bling” by Drake
This goes back in AMAs 2016 where Drake got the nods of the American crowd for Best Song (Rap/HIP-HOP). It was released for Drake’s fourth album ‘Views’. Though the song has created controversies and has been criticized it still managed to reach #2 on Billboard’s Hot 100. The rapper has brought out his emotions through catchy music and his skills. It was a sensation in 2016 but Drake fans are still tuning to this AMAs winner.
“Ever since I left the city
You and I just don’t get along
You make me feel like I did you wrong
Girl, you got me down”
“Upside Down” By Diana Ross
The legendary singer Diana Ross was given tribute by awarding Lifetime Achievement Award at AMAs this year. Evan Ross has given the astonishing introduction of her. The Mahogany singer closed the night with a performance of her classic songs. Her song ‘Upside Down’ was also among the performances and with grace and experience, Diana set the stage on fire. The song was released in 1980 for her album ‘Diana’. It describes a girl who loves a man even when he has cheated on her. Love comes in many ways and this song just gives it another meaning. Being big fans of Diana Ross, we were proud to see these magical moments of one of the best day of the lady who sings blue and magnificient singer of “I’m coming out”.
“Let Me Go” By Hailee Steinfeld
“Let Me Go” is neither a winner nor a nominee at the award show but we wished it to be part of AMAs 2017. It has an incredible performance by the young and beautiful Hailee Steinfeld. The song, featuring Alesso, has the potential to get nominated for or maybe winning the award in the next year because it was recently released on 8 September 2017. The background music contradicts the lyrics of the song. The music is very addictive and the lyrics might make you cry. This beautiful piece is for all those bittersweet goodbyes and breakups.
“I have been hoping
Somebody loves you
In the ways, I couldn’t
Somebody is taking care”
Hope you agree with us that the songs on the list are appreciation worthy. That is the reason why they made it to the AMAs stage and list of winners and nominees. American music will always keep us entertained and hope that next year also the awards go to the right people.
I have written this article along with my young talented friend who hails from Chennai (co-author of ‘Gals Empower Thyself’). I appreciate the amount of effort she had put into it and thank her for this Brilliant work.
